How to Use the DU Forum
The DU Forum is the one area on DirectionsU.com that requires a separate login and password.  To use the forum, make sure that you register separately!

If you don't see "Hey, _______" with the blank being filled in with your user name in the upper left corner of this page (just below the line of links that start with "Home", "Forum", "Help", etc.), then you either aren't logged in or you haven't registered.

I'm checking the forum at least daily and I'd love to have questions that I can answer for you!  Feel free to post them in the "General Discussion" area or in an area more pertinent to your question!

To tweet or not to tweet... is not a question anymore.

I am convinced, and I hope you are too that twitter is the IM media/social media of the future. And because it's new, you have the ability to get on the ground floor and get yourself established early.

But if you're like me, you say to yourself... I know what twitter is, but how do I use it effectively?

Well lucky for us there is a tremendous amount of support programs available for free that allow you to learn and utilize twitter as a tremendous marketing tool.

Just remember that marketing on twitter is all about friendships. Come on too strong, nobody clicks your tweet.

So I thought I would list a few of the programs that I have been using that are tremendous. These programs allow you to do everything from automatically follow people in your niche with your keywords, to sending them a message automatically when they follow you... good stuff!

So here are some links, bookmark them and go through them one by one, and I would start with twollow.

http://www.twollow.com/

http://twitterfeed.com/

http://www.tweetlater.com/

http://monitter.com/

http://www.twitscoop.com/

http://www.tweetdeck.com/beta/

So there you have it, a few cool little tools to get you going, but if you really want to show off and have a snazzy background here's a cool little site that'll do it for free.

http://mytweetspace.com/

Have fun with all your new tweet toys and if you like them give me a follow at:

http://twitter.com/Mike_Robbins

And post right here and tell us what you thought of the new twitter tools!

Hey Mike,

All great tools. Here is an other one :

http://dossy.org/twitter/karma/

You have an overview of all your followers, the people you are following and it's easy to see the people you are following, but don't get back at you. You can delete those with a blink of an eye.

Philippe

Mike and Philippe:

I really appreciate you guys.  I feel like I'm already wealthy.  I can't lose with all the resources I have available to me now.  I feel that I have truly found the formula for success.

One of my goals this week is to learn more about Twittering.  I could never have come up with this many tools/resources on my own.

Thanks guys and have a great week.

For new tweeters a couple things you should know.

Twitter is powerful if you employ some basic daily tactics. If you're just getting started and you're just sending tweets to your best friend in the coffee shop you might be missing out on the real power of twitter.

Here's some basic facts to live by.

1) Be transparent--TOTALLY transparent. Talk about your life, your family, your work. Be detailed and honest. Tell them about good days and bad. Show them what it's like to be in your shoes. Your followers want to know about YOU--not just your products or services. So give them that insight. Then when the time comes to promote, you'll find a much easier road in front of you.

2) Tweet early and often. One of the best ways to do this is to download a free desktop program called TweetDeck. This is a powerful way to stay on top of what's happening with your followers (especially the ones you're looking to JV with) and keep tabs on who's talking about you--without logging in and out all the time.

3) Retweet constantly. Retweeting (or RT) is a fast, easy way to pass along something valuable you've found in another tweet by simply clicking on an icon. This is giving back in its purest form, a way to share the best information with your followers without asking for anything in return. And it WORKS. Retweet the good stuff and you'll soon have a huge group of prospects who know, like and trust you.

Twitter is here to stay, and if you are going to sell on the Internet you need to learn it, and use it every day.

I thought I'd add a couple PDFs on the traffic I've been getting lately from twitter.

1st PDF is from a couple days ago

2nd PDF is from this morning only

Today's numbers are exciting because I posted a link to my blog on an article I had just written and was DM'd immediaetly by doctors and other marketers, pretty cool.

Check out the PDFs below

The Top 7 Mistakes New Twitter Users Make

# 1  not completing a bio

# 2  protecting updates, but complaining about no followers

# 3 no updates, but complaining about no followers

# 4 carrying on long conversations between 2 users

# 5 making the text unreadable -- their background colors make it impossible to read

# 6 over doing RSS twitter feed -- the point of twitter is conversation

# 7 no avatar -- the default brown avatar is a death sentence on getting followers

Make sure you're not doing these and you're in the game as they say.

Hey Mike:

Thanks for the time you have taken and provided the forum, here , with all the twitter links. In my opinion this is what the purpose of the forum is in it's truest form - "sharing and caring" - great job.

I was going to start a post on twitter a few days back however couldn't think of anything new to say - do you mind if I use your top 7 reasons related to Twitter to complete a post at http://promarketingresource.com.

Great stuff Mike.

Well since it's #FollowFriday in Twitter land I have a great new link to give you for Friday the 13th. Today's link is called TweetGrid. It's a very cool tool that allows you to set up many Windows in certain key words, or just plain follow people.

Check it out at:

Mike:

Why don't you consider putting together an ebook or eproject of some sort related to twitter, you have the ability to communicate very well and I believe you could put something together fairly quickly and through social marketing you would do well.

If you haven't already done this, just an observation that could be helpful to you. Think about it.

Have a great weekend.

Carl,

That is a great idea, I hadn't considered it until now. Collaboration? JV?

I would love to put an e-book together, maybe we could work on it together?

I also want to say thanks for becoming a part of the forum again, you add so much thanks for the support.
