How to Use the DU Forum
The DU Forum is the one area on DirectionsU.com that requires a separate login and password.  To use the forum, make sure that you register separately!

If you don't see "Hey, _______" with the blank being filled in with your user name in the upper left corner of this page (just below the line of links that start with "Home", "Forum", "Help", etc.), then you either aren't logged in or you haven't registered.

I'm checking the forum at least daily and I'd love to have questions that I can answer for you!  Feel free to post them in the "General Discussion" area or in an area more pertinent to your question!

Hi there.  I started the challenge a few days ago.  I signed up at 43things and connected it to my Facebook page. I uploaded some plug-ins to several of my wp blogs.  I researched the layout of newsletters. One that I found that impressed me was a magazine layout, and the page size was 8.5 x 7.5 so that it was all "above the fold" in the browser.

I have a list of things I can do well, things I like to do, and things I would like to do.  That didn't seem to get me anywhere.  So then, as I was downloading some free plr's that I get on a daily basis (I belong to 3 sites that send out free plr articles everyday, and I file them away on my computer).  Anyway, I was noticing that I gravitate to certain niche subjects and keywords.  That is helping me to narrow down my market search.

In case anyone is reading this, and didn't read my introduction message, I am going to repeat part of iit here.

If you are interested in really jump starting your career, you need to be on the next internet marketers cruise.  We just got notice from the Captain that our group the "Marketers Cruise" is down to 83 available cabins.  To reserve your spot only costs $300 per person.  And then $200 on July 6, and the balance on Sept. 6 ($500).  The cruise only costs around $1,000 - it will probably cost you more to stay home for 8 days that it would to take this cruise.  I know I can spend $1,000 real quick.

So, please go to www.thejvcruise.com and sign up!

Last year the entire ship sold out early and the captain pulled some of the cabins that had been reserved for our group.  And it looks like the same thing is happening this year.

Hey Roxie

Welcome to the forum Smiley

I wouldn't wait. Gina's information is great. If you haven't already, I would recommend upgrading to the Gold Membership. It's the best money you can spend on your internet marketing/life path education. It gives you access to the Gold Calls on Wednesday, where Gina gives us 2 hours of her time to answer questions on the Challenge lessons. She will even critique your blog.

I like the magazine layout type too. If you will go to askggg.com/expertwordpress there is a free download for a wordpress blog install. I am assuming your site is already up, so don't install the blog, (in this download are the plugins that Gina recommends) just take a look at the plugin list and upload the ones you don't already have.

I noticed you said blogs (plural) - how many do you have?

We like to follow and support the members of the forum.
What is your website address? Twitter? Facebook?
What are the niche subject and keywords that you are gravitating to?

By the way my name is Renee, my site is www.aboutspirit.com. I have been learning from Gina for a little over a year now. I am the most recent winner of the 30 Day Challenge. The direction that I was going when I first started learning about Internet Marketing has shifted. I feel that I am moving toward my passion (in between my job, family, and community outreach projects).

I hope to see you spending some time in the forum. There is soooo much good information in here. Just do a search on admin (I think) - Gina has given lots of advice in her posts.

Many Blessings,
Renee

Renee:

Thanks for the kind words.  I actually am a gold member.  I was on the call today, but I missed the first hour.  Totally spaced it out because I had to go to my auto repair shop to check on my car.  It has been over there almost a month.  The guy had to get the main part shipped from the UK, and then he found out he needed a special tool, and he had to order that from the UK also.  Maybe I will get my car back next week.

Most of my blogs are targeted at Internet Marketing, so I am really trying to find my passion and stop working so hard on the IM stuff.  Gina had some good suggestions today.  So I am on Step 2 of the Challenge.  My main problem all along (for the past year) has been in trying to find a subject I want to explore more.

My twitter account is:  www.twitter.com/roxieboyd
My facebook accountis:  www.facebook.com/TheBayLady

I downloaded the free wp blog on one of my sites and was playing around with it the other day.  I have other plug-ins I use too, but Gina has some good ones.  I am learning about her plug ins by watching the webinars in the 21 days to blogging success program (I think that is the name).

Anyway, I love this site.  I met Gina on the Marketers Cruise in January and am sure glad I did.

I will be hanging around the forum regularly, so I will see you here.  I will give you the updates on my keywords and subject as soon as I get them identified.  Tongue

Hi Roxie:

Welcome to the forum!

I want to clarify something for everyone who reads this...

In your last post, you mention "I have other plug-ins I use too, but Gina has some good ones."

You need to understand that I teach a VERY specific blogging SYSTEM!  Using my blogging system, students get tremendous results from their blogging efforts -- which means getting 1,000 to 5,000 unique visitors per day to your blog, while getting 10% of your blog's visitors to opt in and 25% of your blog's visitors to visit sales pages where 10% or more will convert to buyers.

In order to get these kinds of results, you need to use my ENTIRE blogging system!  This means the followingP

a)  Using a 2 column theme that has a right hand sidebar.  The best theme (in terms of results) is Studio Press's Revolution Lifestyle Theme.  It is from that Theme's layout that Steve Holmes has created "My Instant Theme" which is currently ONLY available to those who are part of our Beta Membership in "My Instant Video" which you'll find at:  http://www.askggg.com/myinstantvideo

b)  Having an opt in box in the upper right corner of your blog, at the top of the right sidebar AND having an opt in box that shows up in a lightbox pop up.  You can do this using "My Instant Pop Up" which is part of the blogging toolbox at http://www.bloggingtoolbox.com

c)  Writing posts that use the "Magic Formula for Writing a Powerful Post".  This means that your keyword appears in the headline, in the tags, and at least twice in the body of the post.  Once it is the anchor text to an internal link and the other is a link to an external link pointing to another site that uses the same keyword.  The post starts with the headline which asks a question that sets the stage for a problem that your ideal prospect has.  So your headline might be something like "How do you get rid of blah, blah, blah?" where the "blah blah blah" is the keyword.

After the headline, the post starts with a story that shows the reader the problem that you will solve in the post.  It then reiterates the question (i.e. "So, how do you get rid of blah, blah, blah?") and then gives a short bulleted list of either the steps to the solution or the solutions to the problem.  After the bulleted list, it goes on to explain the steps or the solutions.  Finally, the post ends with a call to action and a resource.  The resource should either be something that helps your reader save time, save money, make money, or fill some other emotionally compelling need.  In other words, it helps your reader get bigger results, better results or faster results than the solution you just gave them in your post.

d)  Next, you should use the "Simple 6 Step Process" for driving traffic to your blog.  This means: 1) Write a post using the Magic Formula in 'c' above; 2) Ping the search engines using something like www.pingoat.com; 3)  Comment on 5 other sites that use the same keyword and link those comments to the post you just wrote; 4)  Social bookmark both your post and the 5 comments you just made at the following 7 sites - Digg, Delicious, Technorati, StumbleUpon, Propeller, Reddit, and Mixx; 5)  Add your blog's RSS feed to 5 RSS Directories (you'll find them in Google); and 6) Join 5 MyBlogLog.com communities and add their authors as contacts.

e)  At least once per week, create a HubPage focusing on one of your keywords.  Link it to a Google Knol that you create using the same keyword.  Link the Google Knol to a Squidoo lens that focuses on the same keyword.  Link the Squidoo Lens to your blog.  Also, write an article that focuses on the same keyword and submit it both to one main article directory like EzineArticles.com or AssociatedContent.com, linking your resource box to a specific blog post on your blog.  Then, also re-write that article (or use a good quality spinner such as Unique Content Wizard offered by www.need-an-article.com) and submit it to at least 1 article syndicator such as those shown at www.abundancegroup.com/advertise.

f)  In your blog's sidebar, arrange it as follows:  1) opt in box with good benefit oriented headline; 2)  Text link to subscribe to your feed (use Feedburner's "Chicklet Chooser); 3)  A graphic ad for your low end product that generates leads for other products that you sell; 4) Recent Posts; 5) Categories: 6)  Resources (this is the category called "resources" in your "Links" area of your blog) - where you have text links to all of the low end products that you sell;  7)  Archives;  Cool  Recent Reader Widget from MyBlogLog.com.  NOTE:  You do NOT want tons of ads in your sidebar!  You only have 1 graphic ad and a list of text ads!  Anything more than that will actually make you LESS money not more money from your blog!

g)  Using "My Twitter Tools" plugin on your blog, have each blog post also posted to your Twitter account.  Each day, add 25 to 50 new followers on Twitter.

h)  Setup a Facebook account.  Using the Twitter application, have each Tweet post to your status on Facebook.  Each day, add 50 new friends to your Facebook account.  Also use the RSS Reader application on Facebook to have your posts also post to your wall.

i)  Using the "Headline Animator" tool in your Feedburner.google.com account, post to forums daily with the Headline Animator in your signature line.  Use the Headline Animator to add your blog posts to other social networking profiles you have in your niche.

-------------------------------------------
This is an overview of my blogging system.  The plugins that I use are all designed to help cause results with this system.  Some of the plugins allow you to improve search engine rankings.  Others help to improve conversions.  I've seen other plugins that people use that actually hurt results on your blog, though.  So my suggestion is to ONLY use my recommended plugins at first!  Then, test things out -- look at how much traffic you get to your blog and what that traffic turns into in turns of subscribers and sales.  Only after you know what kind of results you get should you consider adding other plugins.  As you do, carefully watch to see what results you then get.  If they are less than what you previously got, remove the new plugins.

I hope this helps!  Know that my entire system for building a business has 5 core systems:

#1 -- A Mindset System (see the "Mindset Systems Workshop" at http://www.askggg.com/mindset)
#2 -- A Relationship Building System with the blog at the heart of it (see the "Blog Systems Workshop" at http://www.askggg.com/bloggingcall)
#3 -- A Monetization System that uses at least 1 info product to generate leads for the other products you sell (see the "Info Product Systems Workshop" at http://www.askggg.com/ipcall )
#4 -- A Leverage System that taps into other people's resources to build yours (see the "Joint Venture Systems Workshop" at http://www.askggg.com/jvcall )
#5 -- A Traffic Generation system (see the "Traffic Systems Workshop" at http://www.askggg.com/traffic )

Your blog is really the heart and soul of all 5 of these systems!  So you really only want 1 blog that focuses on the 1 audience that you want to target.  The blog needs to help that audience to solve problems that they know they have.  This will help get visitors to your blog onto your list and to get visitors to buy the lead generation products that you offer.  The list and the low end products will then help to get people to know, like and trust you and to see all of the other problems that they didn't know they had.  The list and low end products then move buyers into higher priced products that you offer and eventually, get them qualified as buyers of your high end products.

When you use this system, you increase the lifetime value of each customer.  This means that you don't need as many new customers to make tons of money in the end.  It also means that you don't need millions of visitors to your website to get great results.  So, you can work less and make more!

If you plan all of this properly, it will help ensure that you'll meet ALL of your goals in the long run, helping you to feel more fulfilled and like you really accomplished something!

If you're struggling with what niche to be in, it usually indicates that you haven't really planned your long term goals well.  That's covered both in the "Miracle Motivational Package" in the "Goal Setting" bonus (http://www.askggg.com/aip) and in much more detail in the "Mindset Systems Workshop".  You got an overview of this in Lesson 1 of the Challenge and a little more of an overview in Lesson 2.  Really think long and hard about what you want 3 to 5 years from now as it will help you to figure out what you really want to do!

To Your Abundant Success!
